A skid-steer forestry mulcher clears roughly half an acre to two acres per day in Central Texas, depending on brush density, tree size, and terrain. Light cedar and brush go fast; heavy, mature stands with big trunks slow it down. Rocky caliche and steep ground pull the rate down further.
The Honest Range
Anyone who quotes you a flat "acres per day" without seeing the land is guessing. The real range for forestry mulching runs from about half an acre to two acres in a working day. Two properties that are both "five acres" can take wildly different amounts of time — the acreage barely tells the story. What's growing on it, and how big, is what matters.
What Speeds the Work Up
Light, uniform growth is fast: young cedar, brush, tall weeds, and saplings mulch quickly and let the machine move steadily. Flat, dry, open ground with good access means less repositioning and no waiting on soft spots. A property that's overgrown but not heavily timbered is where you get the most acres cleared in a day.
What Slows It Down
Four things eat the clock. Density — a wall of mature cedar takes far more passes than scattered brush. Tree size — big trunks near the top of what the mulcher can handle grind slowly, and anything oversized has to be handled differently. Terrain — our caliche, rock outcrops, and slopes force a careful, slower pace. Cleanup standard — grinding everything to a fine, even mulch takes longer than a rough knockdown.
Light vs. Heavy: Two Real Examples
An acre of scattered brush and young cedar on flat ground might be a morning's work. An acre of dense, mature cedar with big trunks on rocky, rolling terrain — ground down clean — can be most of a day on its own. Same acre on paper, very different jobs in the field.
